DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed alleged that the government is killing people randomly after being miserably failed to control narcotics.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks while addressing a protest meeting demanding jailed party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release at national press club in Dhaka on Friday noon (May 25).
Moudud said, “The Home Minister said law enforcers made a list of drug traders. If so then why didn’t they conducted drives earlier to control drug? The main reason is that their own party leaders are involved in the drug trading and earning thousands of crores of money. Now they have suddenly started to kill people. A total of 58 people were killed in alleged shootout from May 8 to 25. Is there no value of human life?”
On the issue of upcoming Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) election, he said the Khulna City election was not people’s election. Police controlled the polling centers and BNP agents couldn’t even enter in 100 centers. Now the government is mulling to hold the GCC polls as KCC polls. But no, we will try to resist it with our best ability this time.
Moudud also criticized the Election Commission (EC) saying that the commission is just a conveyor of this government’s wishes. It is only doing what the ruling party wants it to do. EC have amended the code of conduct of election campaign so that MPs now can run campaigns. It is part of a bigger plot ahead of the national election.
