DHAKA: High Court kept bail petition of businessman Sharfuddin Ahmed pending till July 31 in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in which he had been sentenced 10 years of imprisonment.
The HC bench of Justice of M. Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim handed the order on Wednesday (May 30), after hearing on it.
Besides, another convict, a former MP 0f Magura constituency, Kazi Salimul Haque Kamal was given permission to have treatment at private hospital at his own cost, which is subject to consultation of Dhaka Medical College Hospital medical board.
Advocate Ahsan Ullah argued for bail while Shah Manjurul Haque stood for Kazi Kamal in court.
Khurshid Alam Khan moved for Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik moved for the state.
In Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, HC accepted hearing petitions of 3 convicts, including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who are now in jail, while 3 other convicts are on the run.
On February 8, a special court of Dhaka sentenced five years’ imprisonment to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and 10 years to 6 others accused in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
