DHAKA: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the eleventh national parliamentary election will be held according to constitution and it will not wait for BNP.
In addition, “The election will be held within the stipulated time, even if BNP does not contest without its chief Khaleda Zia (who is now in jail).”
Obaidul Quader, also, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister came up with the remark to reporters while visiting Gabtoli Bus Terminal, and other neighboring areas in the city on Tuesday (April 10).
Obaidul Quader said, “There are only four to five months left for the national election to be held. It is up to them (BNP), how would BNP join in election by this time. Besides, the government (Awami League) did not send Khaleda Zia to jail; it is the court which sent her to jail. Therefore, it’s up to the court to decide whether Khaleda Zia to remain in jail or outside. If BNP doesn’t participate in polls, without her (Khaleda Zia), the government can’t force them in this regard.”
