SC hearing on appeal against Khaleda’s bail in 2 Cumilla cases begins

DHAKA: The Supreme Court started hearing on the appeal filed seeking stay on a High Court order that granted bail for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in two sabotage cases filed in Cumilla has begun Thursday morning (May 31).

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam started the hearing at the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain. 

Khaleda Zia’s lawyers Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, AJ Mohammad Ali and Zainul Abedin were present at the courtroom, to move for her.

On Monday (May 28), The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan granted bail to Khaleda Zia in the two cases.

Later in the day, the state filed an appeal with the Chamber Court of Appellate Division seeking stay on the High Court bail order.

In response to the appeal, a Chamber court of Justice Hassan Foyez Siddiqui on Tuesday stayed the HC order and fixed Thursday for hearing the appeal in the full bench.
