DHAKA: Supreme Court on Thursday (May 31) upheld the stay order against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail in two cases of vandalism and murder filed in Cumilla.

Also, it directed the state to appeal regularly.

The Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain fixed June 24 for next hearing.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, AJ Mohammad Ali and Zainul Abedin moved for Khaleda Zia.

On Wednesday (May 28), the Chamber Court Justice Hassan Foyez Siddiqui fixed this day for hearing on the petition.

On Wednesday morning (May 28), the HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice JBM Hassan granted bail to Khaleda Zia in these two cases. However, it rejected bail in a libel case of Narail as it had not been placed before it.

One of the cases was filed in connection with vandalizing vehicles in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla on January 25, 2015.

The other was filed for killing 8 people and injuring 25-26 others by setting fire on a bus in the same upazila of Cumilla on February 2, 2015.
