DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the time has come for every concerned citizen of the country to standup, resist and protest against the oppression of the ruling party.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks while inaugurating a music album created by BNP national executive committee member Masud Arun at Bhasani building in city’s Naya Paltan area on Friday (June 1).
Fakhrul said, “Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned for months now. We have applied to government several times for dialogue and solution. However, they are adamant to our call. They refer to the constitution for every excuse but the truth is that they have modified the constitution according to their will.”
Mentioning BNP’s long history of struggle against dictators like Ayub Khan and HM Ershad, Fakhrul said this the worst time of all. Even the Pakistani government did not kill people they way ruling Awami League is doing.
Fakhrul told party leaders and activists that the days of giving lectures are over. Now it is time for work and save the country. Khaleda Zia, symbol of country’s democracy, must be free from jail to give back people their rights.
BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP general secretary Kazi Abul Bashar, acting president Munshi Bazlul Basit Anjus and other party leaders were present at the event.
