DHAKA: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi criticized Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader for the latter’s comment about Teknaf municipality councilor Akramul Haque Akram’s death in so-called “gunfight.”
“Such remarks of Obaidul Quader are nothing but a mockery to the human rights. His aim of the comments is to acknowledge extra-judicial killings of murderers, terrorists,” said Rizvi.
Addressing a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka, the BNP leader said: “Audio of Akram’s murder and cries of his daughters and wife have shocked, not only conscience of the country’s people, but people of the world too.”
“A total of 130 persons have been murdered so far without trial in the name of anti-narcotics drive, excluding Akram. The figure now stands at 250 over the last 4 months,” he added.
“Nation wants to know that how the influential persons backed by the ruling party including the ‘Yaba godfather’ MP Bodi fled the country, dodging the eyes of intelligence agencies?,” Rizvi said further.
