NARAIL: A Narail court has rejected bail plea of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in a defamation case. 

Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahad of District and Sessions Judge Court rejected the bail petition on Tuesday (June 5).

On May 30, Judge Sheikh Abdul Ahad fixed this date for hearing following the bail petition submitted by Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder for Khaleda Zia.

According to the case statement, Khaleda Zia questioned the actual number of Liberation War martyrs at a discussion held in Dhaka, which was broadcast in media on December 21, 2015.

Besides, she made objectionable remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

On December 24, 2015, one Raihan Faruqi Imam from Chapail village under Naragati thana, filed a defamation case against the BNP Chairperson in Narail court.

On July 25, 2016, the court summoned her.

On August 23, 2016, the court ordered her to appear before the court.

Meanwhile, another defamation cases was filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Narail Court on Dec 29, 2015.
