Army won’t be deployed in any city polls: CEC CEC KM Nurul Huda at the function in Barishal

BARISHAL: Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said there will be no army deployment in any city corporation elections including Barishal.

“Hopefully, army will be deployed in the next national election. However, that has to be discussed with our commission,” Huda said to reporters at 11 am in Barishal.

He inaugurated a training workshop on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) of election officials of Barishal and Faridpur regions at Barishal Circuit House on Wednesday (June 6).

He said, “We want to hold free and fair election. For this, EVM system is very important.” He, therefore, urged all to promote the benefits and needs of this system.

As regards next election, CEC said, “We cannot take any special initiative for any special party in the next election. We urge in earnest, as we did before, all parties to participate in the election, so that election becomes competitive.

“We hope BNP would join polls. But, we have no scope to take initiative whether a party to join election or not,” he added.
