TANGAIL: Local administration ordered imposition of section 144 in Gopalpur town following the announcement of program at the same place by two rival groups of ruling Awami League.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Jhaton Chanda issued the order, at 7am, on Thursday (August 30).
“The order remains in force until situation returns to normal,” he added.
According to Abdus Salam Miah, officer-in-charge of Bhuapur police station, “Gopalpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Unus Islam Talukder, as per pre-announcement, organized a public meeting at ground of Nolin Mayin Uddin High School on Thursday. On the other hand, the leaders of the local parliament member Khandker Asaduzzaman called for a procession and a public gathering demanding death penalty of the accused in the August 21 grenade attack case.”
“Section 144 was imposed in that school and surrounding areas to avert clash of both rival groups,” OC added.
