DHAKA: Mentioning that the government is repeatedly obstructing Khaleda Zia’s release from jail, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it is time for this government to leave and release Khaleda immediately.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks at a press conference in city’s Naya Paltan party office on Sunday (September 2).
Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said the government will not interfere with Khaleda’s bail order. However, Rizvi rejected Quader’s assurance saying, “Khaleda was not imprisoned by a fair trial but by the direction of the government.”
Mentioning party’s Sep 1 rally that drew huge crowd, Rizvi said people rejected the remarks of AL and want them to leave power instead.
Rizvi also criticized the government for saying that election will be as per constitution. “It is you who brought changes to the constitution according to your needs. You scraped the 13th amendment to repeal the caretaker government system.”
He also spoke against the EC’s decision on using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). Calling to stop the blueprint of EVM, he said, “A few countries that started the EVM stopped it later. The government is so keen to use the machine. I think people can understand why?”
