DHAKA: A writ petition was filed with the High Court seeking its directive to allow imprisoned BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia undergoing treatment in a specialized hospital.
The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Ahmed Sohel is likely to hear the petition.
Following submission of the writ petition, Khaleda Zia’s lawyer, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokhan said: “Khaleda Zia is in jail. She is very sick. Her left leg and hand are almost dysfunctional. In such conditions, we filed the petition to High Court seeking her proper treatment.”
On April 7, she was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU). A couple of medical tests were performed on her. Nothing serious was found, but Khaleda Zia was not satisfied.
Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia orphanage Trust graft case since February 8.
