DHAKA: Two lawyers of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia could not meet her in prison after jail authority turned them down at jail gate.
The lawyers-Advocate Sanaullah Mia and Masud Ahmed Talukder-returned from the gate of Old Central Jail, which is located on Nazimuddin Road in old part of Dhaka, at 4:30 pm on Tuesday (September 18).
The lawyers told reporters, “We submitted a petition to the court on September 13 to meet BNP Chairperson in jail. The court granted our petition.”
“With court’s permission, we came to meet her (Khaleda Zia), but prison authorities said they were unable to arrange a meeting with Khaleda Zia. We’ll come again tomorrow (September 19),” lawyers added.
In response to a question, they also said, “We wanted to have a conversation with Khaleda Zia regarding court session of September 20. However, jail authorities did not evaluate court’s permission.”
A Dhaka special court sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8. She landed in jail on the same day.
