DHAKA: The High Court set Tuesday (September 25) to hear a writ petition seeking its directive to the authorities concerned for arranging treatment of imprisoned BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at a specialized hospital.
A bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order on Monday (September 24).
Lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Kawser Kamal stood for Khaleda Zia while Attorney Mahbube Alam stood for the state.
The writ petition was filed on filed on September 9.
Following submission of the writ petition, Khaleda Zia’s lawyer, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokhan said: “Khaleda Zia is in jail. She is very sick. Her left leg and hand are almost dysfunctional. In such conditions, we filed the petition to High Court seeking proper treatment for her.”
She was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on April 7. A couple of medical tests were performed on her. Nothing serious was found, but Khaleda Zia was not satisfied.
Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8.
