SC upholds Khaleda’s bail in 2 cases

DHAKA: The appellate division of the Supreme Court rejected petition of the state seeking cancellation bail of BNP chief Khaleda Zia in two cases filed against her on defamation charges.

An appellate division bench comprised of three justices and headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order Monday (Oct 1).

Lawyers said the bail granted to Khaleda Zia in the two cases is now upheld. 

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia, at the courtroom.

Earlier, the High Court granted Khaleda six-month bail on August 13 in a case filed in Narail and on August 14 in a case filed in Dhaka.

Afterwards, the state filed petition seeking cancellation the bail granted to her.
