DHAKA: The High Court adjourned till October 3 the hearing on a writ petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking its directive on the authorities concerned to send her to a specialized hospital for treatment.
An HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil passed the order on Tuesday (October 2).
Lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokhon stood for Khaleda Zia while Attorney Mahbube Alam stood for the state.
Earlier on Tuesday (September 25), High Court adjourned hearing on the writ petition until this day.
The writ petition was filed on September 9.
The petition asks for instructions to form a special board for Khaleda’s treatment as well as submission of all medical documents.
Seven persons, including Home Secretary, Inspector General (Prison), Jail Super of Dhaka Central Jail were made defendants in the writ petition.
On September 15, a 5-member medical board examined Khaleda’s health conditions in Old Central Jail located in old part of the capital where she is imprisoned now.
Follow day, the medical board submitted the report.
She also was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on April 7. A couple of medical tests were performed on her. Nothing serious was found, but Khaleda Zia was not satisfied.
Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8.
