DHAKA: Imprisoned BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has agreed to take treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), said prison doctor Mahmudul Hasan.
“She (Khaleda Zia) was informed about High Court’s order, and she agreed upon it to have treatment BSMMU. Prison authorities had all the preparations to take her to the hospital today, but she refused to move today. She will be admitted to BSMMU soon,” Mahmudul Hasan said on Friday (October 5).
On Thursday (October 4), a HC bench, in response to a writ petition filed by Khaleda Zia, gave the order to admit Khaleda Zia to BSMMU immediately for her treatment forming a five-member medical board.
Out of 5 doctors, 2 remain from the previous board while the rest 3 will be decided by the government.
Besides, Khaleda Zia can take physiotherapist, gynecologist and technician as per her choice for her treatment subject to the approval from the medical board.
The writ petition was filed on September 9.
The petition asked for instructions to form a special board for Khaleda’s treatment as well as submission of all medical documents.
Earlier, a 5-member medical board examined Khaleda’s health conditions in Old Central Jail located in old part of the capital where she is imprisoned now on September 15.
Follow day, the medical board submitted the report.
She also was taken to BSMMU on April 7. A couple of medical tests were performed on her. Nothing serious was found, but Khaleda Zia was not satisfied.
Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8.
