DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment.
A white private car of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) carrying Khaleda Zia from old central jail in Nazimuddin road arrived at BSMMU around 3:41pm Saturday (Oct 6).
Earlier in the day, DMP brought a black Pajero SUV to old central jail gate for transporting Khaleda to hospital. However, the SUV was replaced with a car later later as Khaleda could not ascend to the SUV due to height problem.
A RAB pickup truck was also seen coming out of the jail gate carrying Khaleda Zia’s mattress to BSMMU.
Vehicular movement was also temporarily restricted on roads around old central jail while law enforcing members and vehicles were seen taking position at important points during Khaleda Zia’s transfer to BSMMU from jail.
According to hospital sources, BSMMU’s VIP rooms 611 and 602 were kept ready for Khaleda Zia before her arrival. She will be treated there under a medical board led by former Medicine department chairman Professor Dr. Md Abdul Jalil Chowdhury.
BSMMU authority has also formed a new five-member medical board for Khaleda Zia’s treatment as per High Court order.
