DHAKA: Members of the medical board entered the cabin of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to assess her health condition.
A 5-member medical board headed by Professor Abdul Jalil Chowdhury, of internal medicine of BSMMU, has entered the cabin No: 611 which is on the 6th floor of cabin block, at 11:30 on Sunday (October 7).
Apart from Professor Abdul Jalil, other members of the medical board are Associate Professor Badrunnesa, a physiatrist, Prof Sajal Krishna Banerjee, of cardiology, Prof Nokul Kumar Dutta, of orthopedic surgery, and Syed Atiqul Haq, of rheumatology.
BNP Chairperson’s personal physician Dr Mamun Rahman was also accompanying the medical team.
“We five doctors are going to talk to Khaleda Zia in her cabin. Her personal physician Dr Mamun Rahman is also with us, though he is outside the team. We will talk to her about her overall treatment. We’ll inform you later if further tests are required,” Abdul Jalil Chowdhury told Banglanews.
Khaleda Zia was shifted to BSMMU from Dhaka's Old Central Jail for treatment on Saturday (October 6), in line with a High Court order.
On October 4, a HC bench, in response to a writ petition filed by Khaleda Zia, gave the order to admit Khaleda Zia to BSMMU immediately for her treatment forming a five-member medical board.
The writ petition was filed on September 9.
Earlier, a 5-member medical board examined Khaleda’s health conditions in Old Central Jail located in old part of the capital on September 15.
Follow day, the medical board submitted the report.
She also was brought to BSMMU on April 7. A couple of medical tests were performed on her. Nothing serious was found, but Khaleda Zia was not satisfied.
Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8.
