DHAKA: The cabinet has approved the draft of ‘Narcotics Control Act, 2018’ with a provision of death penalty as maximum punishment for possessing yaba pills more than five grams.
The approval, in principle, came from a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday (Oct 8).
According to the draft law, if anyone especially drug trader is found with more than 5 grams of yaba pills and 25 grams of cocaine can be sentenced to death. However, if yaba dealers are found with less than five grams of the drug can be sentenced to maximum 15 years in prison.
Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam briefed reporters after the meeting.
