DHAKA: The newly-formed political alliance Jatiya Oikyafront has made the announcement to hold its proposed rally in Sylhet, even though Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) postponed the permission.

The announcement came from a meeting of the alliance held in a city’s Dhanmondi residence on Friday (October 19).

Rally’s previous date (October 23) has been changed to October 24.

After the meeting, Gana Forum General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu said, "If we are not allowed to hold the rally on 24 October (Wednesday), we will indeed hold the rally."

October 16, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rob made the announcement to hold a rally in Sylhet on October 23.

On October 17, permission was sought from SMP and it was granted, according to the claim of Jatiya Oikyafront.

On October 18, SMP said the permission was not given.

On October 19, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said Jatiya Oikyafront’s rally in Sylhet was not cancelled, but postponed for security reasons.
