CHITTAGONG:  A Chittagong court sent BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to jail after rejecting his bail petition in a case filed under ICT Act.

Metropolitan Session Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order on Sunday (October 21).

Earlier, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Amir Khasru in the case, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Md Fakhruddin Chowdhury.

The HC bail expired on October 7. The Chittagong court extended his bail till October 21.

The case was filed under sections 57 (2) of ICT Act and 15 (3) of Special Power Act with Chittagong Kotwali Police Station on August 4.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chattogram city unit Acting General Secretary Jakaria Dastagir filed the case on charges of provoking the recent student movement for safe roads.

An audio clip of telephonic conversation about ongoing student movement went viral in social networking sites. The content was deemed anti-government.
