DHAKA: The appellate division of the Supreme Court adjourned till Monday (Oct 29) the hearing upon state plea challenging the High Court orders that granted bail to 10 leaders of Jatiya Oikyo Front including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
A 6-member appellate division bench headed by senior-most judge Justice Muhammad Imman Ali passed the order Thursday (Oct 25).
Attorney Gen Mahbubey Alam moved for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Zainul Abedin moved for the politicians, at the courtroom.
Mahbubey Alam said the state will now file CP (leave to appeal).
Earlier this month, the High Court granted BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Vice Chairmen Mohammad Shahjahan and Barkatullah Bulu, and AZM Jahid Hossain bail in advance, in separate sabotage cases.
Besides, Oikyo Front leader Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and Barrister Moinul Hossain were also granted bail in advance in an extortion case and defamation case respectively.
The state then filed appeal at the appellate division seeking stay on the HC bail orders.
