Sramik League leader stabbed dead in Gazipur

GAZIPUR: A Sramik League leader, a workers’ front of ruling Awami League, was stabbed to death by miscreants in Sreepur Upazila of the district on Thursday (October 25).

26-year-old Umar Faruk, son of Hafijul Islam, was the organizing secretary of Sreepur Municipality Sramik League.

Informed by police and locals, a group of men took Umar forcibly from the area of his residence to the front of Panchkhanda Primary School. Miscreants, after stabbing him with sharp weapons around 10 am, fled the spot immediately. Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

Confirming the matter to Banglanews, inspector of Sreepur Police Station Sheikh Sadik said: “On information, police sent the body, after recovering it, to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue.”

“Investigation is underway to detain the miscreants,” inspector added.
