Khaleda not to appear in court for verdict

DHAKA:  BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not appear in the trial court during the verdict in Zia Charitable Trust graft case as her ‘physical conditions are not well enough’, said Professor Dr. Abdul Jalil Chowdhury, head of medical board formed for her treatment. 

Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman is all set to deliver the verdict in the graft case at makeshift court installed in Old Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road after 11am on Monday (October 29).

ACC filed the graft case against Khaleda and three others with Tejgaon police station on August 8, 2010 for embezzling Tk3.15 crore from Zia Charitable Trust.

On February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust case.

She was sent to Dhaka central jail following the verdict. Since then, she has been in jail
