DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she wants to hold a free, fair and credible election so that people may find their leadership.
Sheikh Hasina, also president of ruling Awami League, told Jukta Front leaders in her introductory speech as the dialogue began between 14-party alliance and Jukta Front led by Bikalpadhara Bangladesh President Prof Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury at Ganahaban.
The dialogue has started at 7:40 pm on Friday (November 2).
Sheikh Hasina said, “People can cast their votes independently provided that democratic process is maintained. Our aim is to create that opportunity.”
A 21-men delegation of Jukta Front led by its chairman Badruddoza Chowdhury joined the talks in premier’s official residence to reach a consensus over holding the upcoming national poll in a free, fair and credible manner.
Bikalpa Dhara Secretary General Maj (retd) Abdul Mannan, Presidum members Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, Golam Sarwar Milon, BLDP President Nazim Uddin Al Azad, NAP President Jebel Rahman Gani, NDP Chairman Khandaker Golam Mortuza and Jatiya Janata Party President Sheikh Asaduzzman are among the leaders.
On October 30, former president Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury wrote to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also president of ruling Awami League, for talks over the issue of elections.
In response to Jukta Front’s call for dialogue, PM Sheikh Hasina fixed this day.
Earlier, 14-party alliance held dialogue with Jatiya Oikyafront.
