DHAKA: Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia should be granted bail keeping the proceedings of the cases filed against her continue.
He made the remarks as chief guest at a human chain program demanding Khaleda's release organized in front of national press club on Saturday (Nov 3).
Zafrullah said a fair election must be held in country. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina several times said that she wants participatory and contesting polls. Now I am waiting for implementation of these good words into work.
Mentioning the Oikyafront’s seven-point demand to government, he said the first demand is the dissolution of parliament, followed by polls under neutral government and release of Khaleda Zia and other political prisoners. Implementing the 3rd demand is easy because though the cases against Khaleda are criminal cases; those were filed under political motivation.
“I don’t want withdrawal of cases against Khaleda Zia, I want justice for her. The first condition of justice is to grant her bail and then the trial can continue. During the dialogue with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, I had reiterated this demand,” Zafrullah added.
