DHAKA: Gono Forum president and Jatiya Oikyafront convener Dr Kamal Hossain said many have tried to kill democracy in the last 47 years of country’s independence but nobody could do it. 

“We have to face all future challenges keeping the memory of 1971 liberation war in mind so that nobody can kill democracy", he added. 

Dr Kamal made the remarks at a program marking the National Jail Killing Day at Engineering Institute auditorium in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon (Nov 3).

He said, “We have achieved independence at a huge price. Many conspiracies were made against the independence and the country is paying prices even after 47 years. None could defeat Bengalis and never will. People are the owner of the country and we need everyone to consolidate Jatiya Oikyafront.”

JSD president ASM Abdur Rab, Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gono Shashtha Kendra founder Dr. Zafrullah among others spoke at the program organized by Krishak Shramik Janata League.
