DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the opposition parties will not choose the path of tougher movement if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina can solve the crisis through dialogue.
Earlier, PM Hasina said she does not understand why opposition parties carrying out dialogue and movement at the same time.
In response to PM’s remarks, Rizvi said, “The key to solve the crisis is in your (Sheikh Hasina) hand.”
The senior BNP leader said it in a press briefing at party’s Naya Paltan office on Sunday noon (Nov 4).
He said, “The Election Commission is rushing to announce polls schedule before finding any solution to the current political crisis through dialogue between ruling party and other political parties. Moreover, Election Commission members’ opinion is also being ignored as reported by news media.”
“Jatiya Oikyafront on yesterday sent a letter to EC asking it not to announce polls schedule before the dialogue ends. However, EC secretary claimed they did not receive any letter and the schedule will be announced by this week. I am urging the EC to prioritize the national interest within legal power and announce schedule after dialogue,” he said.
Rizvi also claimed that police continued to detain activists and leaders of BNP among opposition parties across the country and filing fictitious cases against them across the country ahead of the national polls.
