DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad suggested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not to accept unconstitutional demands of anyone revolving the next national polls.
Ershad led a team of opposition party representatives, while holding a dialogue with Awami League-led 14-party alliance at Ganabhaban Monday (Nov 5) night.
The former Bangladesh president expressed his assurance of putting joint effort to tackle any unconstitutional advances, several Jatiya Party leaders told Banglanews.
“I believe you. Do whatever you think better; we are lending our support to you unconditionally. We will be in the polls. Do however you think the polls will be better,” he said to Sheikh Hasina as quoted by a source.
“We’ll be there for you, to confront jointly if anyone tries to obstruct the normalcy of the election process,” he added.
“Compromises can be given within the constitution. Everything should be within the constitution. Arrange an election through this,” added the JaPa chairman.
Sheikh Hasina also assured him regarding this.
“Whatever we do, will be obeying the constitution. The next polls will be held as per the constitution. We won’t go beyond it,” she said.
