DHAKA: Communist Party Bangladesh (CPB) President Mujahidul Islam Selim said Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) is ready for waging movement and boycotting the upcoming national polls if their demands aren’t met.
A 16-member team of the 8-leftist party alliance participated in a dialogue with Awami League led 14-party alliance, at the Ganabhaban Tuesday (Nov 6).
Beginning around 7:30am, the talks lasted nearly three hours.
Prime Minister also Awami League President Sheikh Hasina led the 14-party delegation at the talks.
In the talks, the leftist leaders placed demands of forming an election-time caretaker government, reforming Election Commission (EC), dissolving the parliament, cancelling the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), withdrawing false cases and stopping oppression on the opposition alliances.
“We have placed our speech to the premier very clearly. The ball is now at her court. Whether the next polls be participatory depends on what she decides after considering these (demands),” Mujahidul Islam Selim told reporters.
“We have placed our demands in written format. Hope the government will take effective steps,” said Saiful Huq, General Secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party.
