Ailing Khaleda taken to court forcibly: Fakhrul

DHAKA: After BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia had been taken to court for Niko case hearing from BSMMU, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government forcibly and illegally took ailing Khaleda Zia to court.

The senior BNP leader made the remarks to reporters waiting outside of the old central jail in where Khaleda Zia’s Niko case hearing was being conducted in a makeshift court on Thursday (Nov 8).

The BNP secretary general said the medical board said Khaleda Zia is very ill but she had been taken to court forcefully by the government. Moreover, we don’t know whether the medical board has given any discharge certificate to her, the government has made up the certificate by some one else.

The government has done it out of political vengeance and we strong condemn the action, he added.

Earlier in day, BNP chairperson was taken to the makeshift court set up in old central jail from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Khaleda Zia has been serving her 5-year jail sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case and shifted to BSMMU from old central jail last month due to illness.
