DHAKA: In a latest move, Bangladesh Test and T20 skipper Shakib Al Hasan has decided not to run in the 11th parliamentary election.
The ace allrounder confirmed the matter to media, at the night.
Earlier, news of his seeking candidacy from ruling Awami League was whirling on various media outlets since noon.
“Won’t be contesting the election this time. Want to stay in the playground,” Shakib said.
Sources said Shakib had met Prime Minister also Awami League President Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban in the evening where the premier advised him not to run in the election this time and to continue play for the nation.
At noon, Shakib told media that he is going to contest in the upcoming polls from Magura-1 constituency. He even had discussion with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader regarding this.
