CHITTAGONG: BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has been released from Chattogram central jail in a case filed under the ICT Act.
He walked out of the jail at 7:30 am on Monday (November 12), Proshanto Kumar Banik, senior jailer of the jail, told Banglanews.
“Amir Khasru’s bail order came from High Court on Sunday. After verification of the papers, he has been released on Monday morning,” he added.
Metropolitan Session Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha of Chattogram court sent Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to jail after rejecting his bail petition in the case on October 21.
Earlier, the High Court granted anticipatory bail to Amir Khasru in the case, said Md Fakhruddin Chowdhury, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court.
The HC bail expired on October 7. The Chattogram court extended his bail till October 21.
The case was filed under sections 57 (2) of ICT Act and 15 (3) of Special Power Act with Chittagong Kotwali Police Station on August 4.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chattogram city unit Acting General Secretary Jakaria Dastagir filed the case on charge of provoking the recent student movement for safe roads.
An audio clip of telephonic conversation about ongoing student movement went viral in social networking sites. The content was deemed anti-government.
