DHAKA: Terming police-BNP supporters’ clash as planned attack, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used Election Commission (EC) to launch the police attack.
The BNP leader voiced the allegation immediately after the clash at a press briefing in city’s Nayapaltan party office on Wednesday (November 14).
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said “With the directive from the government, this attack was carried out. Government will try to provoke in various ways. You (leaders and activists) people don’t fall into the trap.”
Earlier in the day around 1 pm, BNP leaders and activists set fire to two police vans following a clash with law enforcers in front of city’s Nayapaltan Central office.
Police fired rubber bullets, used teargas, and charged batons to disperse the agitating supporters. Some supporters were reported to be injured during the chaos.
Thousands of BNP supporters gathered around the party office from 10 am on the 3rd day of nomination paper sale. Vehicular movement was disrupted, because of huge gathering.
The crowd has been dispersed already. Three gates of BNP central office have been locked from inside. Law enforcers have occupied the street.
