DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the government is spoiling the environment of election by carrying out a police attack in front of party’s Nayapaltan office.
The senior BNP leader made the allegation to reporters prior to hold Oikyafront meeting with the Election Commission on Wednesday afternoon (Nov 14).
Expressing strong condemnation against the attack, Fakhrul said, “Police unjustly carried out attack on BNP men at Nayapaltan party office. The government is destroying the election environment with such attach. I am urging to bring back vote-friendly environment.”
Earlier at noon, BNP leaders and activists clashed with cops in front of their Naya Paltan office when two police vehicles were torched. At one point, policemen hurled tear shells and rubber bullets to disperse BNP men.
Following the attack, Motijheel division deputy commissioner (DC) Anwar Hossain said BNP men attacked police after they were told to move away from street and clear the road.
Meanwhile, Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said BNP carried out the terrorist and subversive activities in its Naya Paltan party office to topple the government and foil the upcoming national election.
