NARSINGDI: The death toll in Friday’s clash among two factions of Awami League in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi has climbed to three.
Forty others were injured in the clash that erupted in Gopinathpur area under Nilokkha union of the upazila around 2pm. Some of them sustained bullet injuries.
The deceased are—Sohrab Mia, 30, Swapon, 27, and Morom Ali, residents of Nilokkha union under Raipura.
Police said followers of Nilokkha union parishad former chairman Abdul Huq Sarker and incumbent chairman Tajul Islam was engaged in a conflict for many days, over establishing supremacy in the area.
Following the dispute, the followers of Tajul Islam carried out a planned attack on the followers of Abdul Huq Sarker, on Friday noon.
At one stage, Sohrab Mia, a follower of Tajul Islam, died on the spot after receiving bullet. Swapon and Morom were whisked-off to a hospital in critical conditions, where the succumbed to injuries.
Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohosin Ul Qadir confirmed the incident.
Police visited the spot and calmed the situation later.
Preparations were underway to file case over the incident.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Jakir Hossain said a schoolboy earlier died in an incident over establishing supremacy in Bashgari area, in the morning.
The incident spread outrage in several other villages including Nilokka.
