DHAKA: Urging everyone to go to the polling centers in upcoming general elections for restoring the democracy, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said let us participate in the vote war and defeat them (ruling Awami League).

The senior BNP leader made the remarks while addressing a lawyers’ rally held on Supreme Court Bar Association premises on Saturday noon (Nov 17). 

Jatiya Lawyers’ Oikyafront organized the rally.

Oikyafront spokesperson and BNP leader Fakhrul said, “Many have criticized us for deciding to join polls after so much obstacles but we have taken this election as a challenge.”

He told lawyers to form movement for establishing independent judiciary. Independent judicial system is fundamental to democracy and the upcoming election is the main part of that movement.

“If democracy seeking people cannot win the general election then the judiciary will permanently go to the hand of one party. Democracy will be captive by a party. That is why everyone must unite to win the next election for the sake of freedom of speech, press and country’s independence,” he said.
