DHAKA: The ruling Awami League has filed a complaint with the Election Commission over convicted fugitive BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman’s video conference with party’s nomination seekers.
An 11-member delegation led by AL presidium member Cornel (Retd) Faruk Khan submitted the application to EC seeking action on Tarique’s activities on Sunday night (Nov 18).
At evening, Election commissioner Rafiqul Islam told media that if anyone files complaint against the matter with evidence then the commission will look into the matter according to law.
BNP started interviewing their nomination aspirants for the 11th parliamentary polls on Sunday morning. Reports were published in news media that BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, who is staying in London, has joined the interview through video conference. Tarique along with his mother BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been convicted in Zia Orphanage and Charitable Trust graft cases.
Later at noon, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has sought the attention of the Election Commission on whether convicted fugitive BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman can take part in the electoral process through video conferencing.
