Khaleda seeks stay of conviction in Orphanage case

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has filed an appeal with chamber court of the appellate division seeking a stay on her 10-year jail sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

The appeal was filed with relevant branch of the Supreme Court on Monday (Nov 19).

Earlier on October 30, the High Court bench of Justices M Enayetur Rahman and Md Mostafizur Rahman extended Khaleda Zia’s jail sentence to 10 years from five years following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

On February 8, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case by a trial court in Dhaka. She had been serving her sentence since then.
