Govt seeks stay on Shahidul's bail

DHAKA:  The government on Monday (Nov 19) filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking stay on the High Court order that granted bail to internationally acclaimed photographer Shahidul Alam in an ICT case.

The Chamber Court of Appellate Division could hold the hearing, Assistant Attorney General Md Ali Jinnah said.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty granted bail to Shahidul Alam on Thursday (November 15).

Dr Shahidul Alam, Drik Gallery owner, was picked up from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5.

Shahidul Alam was arrested in the ICT Act case for “spreading propaganda” and anti-government information on Facebook and electronic media.

Rehnuma, wife of Shahidul Alam, said her husband gave an interview to international media about students’ movement for safe roads.

Besides, her husband, as Rehnuma said, came live on Facebook about the issue for a number of times.

Shahidul Alam underwent remand a few times.
