DHAKA: A Dhaka court sentenced BNP standing committee member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia to three years of imprisonment for failing to submit statement of his properties. 

Judge Dr Sheikh Golam Mahbub of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 pronounced the verdict on Tuesday (Nov 20). 

In April 2001, Rafiqul was served a notice by the then Anti-Corruption Bureau to submit an account statement of all of his movable and immovable properties.  He failed to present it within the set deadline Jun 10 in the same year.

Later on Jan 15, 2014, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official Syed Liakat Hossain filed a case with Uttara Police Station in this connection.

On Nov 30 in that year, the ACC submitted charge-sheet against him at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
