DHAKA: BNP has notified the Election Commission that five of its nomination aspirants for parliamentary seats were arrested by law enforcers.
A delegation led by Case and Information Preservation official of BNP central office MD Salahuddin Khan submitted a list of the arrested nomination aspirants to EC.
The arrested nomination seekers are- Md Ibrahim Hossain from Bagerhat-4 constituency, Md Anisuzzaman Khan Babu from Gaibandha-2 constituency, Md Anowarul Huq Royel from Netrokona Sadar-2 constituency, Sheikh Rabiul Alam from Dhaka Metropolitan-10 constituency and Jessore district BNP vice-president Md Abu Bakar Abu.
BNP delegation has also submitted a letter, signed by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with the list to EC. The letter said five BNP nomination aspirants for national election were arrested and locked up in jail while one of the nomination aspirants is still missing.
Earlier BNP submitted lists of its detained leaders and activists to EC two times. Fakhrul alleged that EC, after being notified repeatedly, is not taking any steps to stop such unwanted arrests of party men.
