DHAKA: A Dhaka court has sent BNP standing committee member and former minister of Housing and Public Works Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia to jail rejecting his bail plea in a case filed by ACC.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter passed the order after Rafiqul was produced before court on Wednesday (Nov 21).
The court also ordered jail authority to take steps as per jail code after Rafiqul’s lawyer Taherul Islam appealed from his proper treatment and division facility.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, police arrested Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia from his Eskaton residence in Dhaka a few hours after a Dhaka court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment.
On Tuesday noon, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia was handed three years’ imprisonment in a case filed against him for not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Judge Dr. Shiekh Golam Mahbub of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-6 also fined Rafiqul Tk 50,000, in default, three more months jail term.
