DHAKA: BNP standing committee member also former housing and public works minister Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia filed an appeal with the High Court against the sentence of three years in prison. 

The hearing upon his plea may take place at the HC bench of Judge Md Shawkat Hossain on Monday (Nov 26), said Rafiqul’s lawyer Barrister Raghib Rouf Chowdhury. 

Acquittal, suspension of the sentence and bail have been sought in the appeal, he said.

On Nov 20, Dhaka-6 Special Judge Court handed over Rafiqul three years’ imprisonment in a case filed on charge of not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
