DHAKA: The High Court on Monday (Nov 26) granted BNP standing committee member also former housing and public works minister Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia bail for six months in a case filed over avoiding wealth statement submission.
The bench of Judge Md Shawkat Hossain passed the order.
The court also took into cognizance the appeal of Rafiqul challenging his sentence of three years’ imprisonment. Besides, the fine was also postponed.
Senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Rafiqul. Lawyer Barrister Raghib Rouf Chowdhury accompanied him.
On Nov 20, Dhaka-6 Special Judge Court handed over Rafiqul three years’ imprisonment in a case filed on charge of not submitting his wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On Monday, he filed an appeal with the High Court, seeking acquittal, suspension of the sentence and bail.
