DHAKA: The High Court has given bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson case filed in Comilla under Special Powers Act.

The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mojibur Rahman gave the order on Wednesday (November 28).

Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali stood for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Deputy Attorney General Dr. Md. Bashir Ullah stood for the state.

The case was filed in connection with vandalizing vehicles in Chouddagram upazila of Cumilla on January 25, 2015.

Nuruzzaman Hawlader, sub inspector of Chouddagram police station, filed the petition against 32 persons of BNP-led 20-party alliance on January 26.

Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8, 2018.
