DHAKA: Jatiya Oikyafront leaders have warned of large-scale movement if the mass arrest of its candidates, leaders and activists is not halted ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections.
They briefed reporters at the Jatiya Press Club Saturday (Dec 1) evening.
“Leaders and activists including the nominated candidates are being arrested everyday, in mass spree. The assurance the prime minister has given has to be implemented. Jatiya Oikyafront will be compelled to forge larger programs if the assurance isn’t materialized,” said the alliance’s leader BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“Oikyafront is taking part in the election to restore democracy and rights of the people. A level-playing field is inevitable for a fair and impartial polls. But it hasn’t been realized even minimum,” he added.
Dr Kamal Hossain, Kader Siddiqui, Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and Mahmudur Rahman Manna, among other Oikyafront leaders, were present at the press briefing.
