EC rejects all nomination forms of Khaleda

DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday (November 02) rejected all nomination forms filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for contesting the 11th parliamentary polls.

Feni District Returning Officer Md Wahiduzzaman and Bogra District Returning officer Foyez Ahmed disclosed the matter respectively after scrutinizing the nomination forms for Feni-1, Bogra-6 and 7 constituencies.

According to both of District Returning Officers, Khaleda’s nomination forms have been cancelled as she was convicted on corruption charges.

On February 8, a Dhaka court sentenced five years jail to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a graft case. Following the verdict, she was taken to old central jail in Dhaka’s Nizamuddin area. Fakhrul met her in jail several times since then.

Later on October 29 a Dhaka special court also sentenced Khaleda Zia and 3 others to 7 years jail each, in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

According to election rules, Khaleda has been disqualified for election participation as her jail sentence is more then two years.
