RAJSHAHI: Election Commissioner Kabita Khanam said Election Commission is working to ensure safety for women so that they can cast their votes smoothly in the upcoming 11th national elections.

Kabita Khanam inaugurated a 2-day workshop on ‘Gender and Elections ’ in Rajshahi on Tuesday (December 4).

Kabita Khanam said, “Half of the voters are female. Though participation of women has increased in the workplace and politics, but it has not reached a considerable stage yet.” 
“Democracy cannot be strengthened without integrated efforts, keeping women aside. The opportunity of electing women as representatives of people has to be expanded. The EC is working in this regard,” she said.

The 11th Jatiysa Sangsad elections are slated for December 30.
